War Diary Month June 1917

Place -- Date -- Hour -- Summary of Events and Information Remarks and references to Appendices

Front Line 1917 June 19 cont.
fire each night on enemy routes and back areas, while
our Lewis guns have directed bursts of rapid fire throughout
the night at half-hour or hour intervals with the idea of har-
assing working and carrying parties. A morning party of
fifteen was dealt with in this manner at dawn this am.
Hostile machine gun fire has been below normal, several
nights there being only one or two guns in evidence in the
front line system & then only firing at infrequent times.
Our riflement have directed a large volume of fire daily into
enemy lines, ruins in enemy areas & in the direction of sus-
pected posts with the objective of keeping down hostile sniping.
This has been much effective as enemy sniping has been
very slight. Aircraft observation has been fair during
the period covered in this report & there has ben daily
activity by our aircraft over enemy lines. Enemy aircraft
activity has decreased by at least one half in comparison
