nd hostile strong points. Enemy wire has been considerably
demolished over the entire frontage of this Battalion, and great
destruction has also been caused in LA COULOTTE, AVION as
well as Enemy support lines and communication trenches.
This continuous harassing fire has apparently had a very
material effect in keeping down hostile activity.
Enemy artillery activity has been below normal. Each
day a limited number of shells, chiefly 77's and 4.2's have
been distributed towards our front and support lines &
communication trenches in the vicinity of the LENS-ARRAS
Road but without causing material damage. On back
areas, just at LA CHAUDIERE and the slopes of VIMY RIDGE
a number of 5.9 shells have been fired at intervals.
During the past four days our Stokes Gun Batteries
have fired from time to time on enemy machine
gun emplacements with good results, as well as on
enemy front line. this fire, as yet, however, has
been restricted proportions. Hostile Trench
Mortar fire on this front has been below normal, only
a few Granatanwerfer bombs being used at intervals
and practically no damage being caused.
