Front Line 1917 June 18 cont.
noticed to the north and north east of AVION. Enemy shelled
his own line at 11.15 pm, one Golden flare being sent up from
there, answered by 8 Golden flares, one single & one double red
flare. Enemy then lengthened his range. About 15 heavy
explosions were heard in Avion between 5.05 & 5.40 this am.
About 6.20 am three ehavy explosions occured & another at
8 am. Several times the debris, consisting of timbers and gir-
ders flew into the air -- probably factories or mine buildings
being blown up.

Operation Order 83, issued. Extracts follow.
The 38th Batt. will be relieved in the line by the 44th Can. Inf.
Batt on the night 19th-20th of June. After relief the 38th
Batt. will be in Divisional Reserve. Chateau de la Haie.
The Batt. will be accommodated at Canada Camp. Com-
panies will move from the line to ZOUAVE VALLEY by platoons
at two hundred yards intervals.
