Front Line 1917 June 17
Batt. in Front Line. Hot weather. Our Artillery intermittently
active during the past 24 hours. Between 5 and 7 o'clock yester-
day, upwards of 125 high explosive shells were placed on
enemy's lines between N.31.c.8.3. and N.31.c.2.5, while the
line from N.28.a.1.9. to N.38.a.6.4. was shelled by 50 H.E.S.
Buring the evening shrapnel was burst at intervals over LA
COULOTTE and KIRK TRENCH. This afternoon the following hostile
areas were bombarded with upwards of 300 H.E. shells. N.32.c.
& T.1.b.3.8. and N.38.a & b. Stokes Bombs to the number
of about 100 were placed along enemy front line in LA COU-
LOTTE. Other points were also bombed Our snipers were active
whilst our Machine Guns were normal. There was the usual
activity with our aircraft. The enemy was considerably
above normal with their artillery. Before midnight last night,
they fired about 100 4-5 shells and 75 H.E's. Their Trench
Mortars were also very active during the night, but this activity
