Vimy 1917 May 25
Shortly after 8 am Huns began searching with H. E
for guns in vicinity of Transport Lines. One man was
killed in 78th lines & Machine Gun Officer wounded.
Mules also suffered. The Balloon crew suffered ca-
sualties from one of the earlier shells. Major Hood
left on leave. Beautiful weather. Aeroplanes active.
Patrols covered our front during the entire night 24/25.
The enemy was very quiet. The activity of our Artillery
was below normal. Our machine guns were also
inactive into the night in consideration of our working
parties. We directed considerable rifle fire into the
ruins of buildings in front of our line. One of our
snipers hit a Hun sniping from brick pile at T. 1. a. 6. 3
A member of Rifle grenades were effectively fired from
vicinity of CYRIL Trench in our Front Line to a point
beyond enemy block? in CYRIL TRENCH. Our aero-
planes carried on the whole was below normal.
Between 1.30 and 2.45 am this morning our Front force?
T. 1. c. 1. q to T. 1. d 2. 2. as well as the Support Line
in the same area was bombarded with light shells
