of an officer, patrolled our front from S. 6. b. q. q. to T. 1.
a. 5. 5. as far forward as the enemy wire during the
night. None of the enemy were seen or any movement
observed. Between 2.30 & 3.00 am, an unusually
large number of flares were discharged along our front.
This was probably due to a bombardment of the Enemy's
Front by rifle grenades by the Batt. on our left. Most
of these flares were sent up from in rear of the Ene-
my's Front Line. At 3.00 a.m. after a green rocket
bursting into two green lights had been fired, our line
near S. 6. d. 5. 8. was bombarded with 5. 9 shells. There
was some rifle fire during the night from the buildings
in and around T. 1. a. 6. 9. A Machine Gun did considerable
shooting throughout the night against our Front Line and
along the valley marking our left flank. The location
of the gun is about N. 36. d. q. l. Stakes being driven in
