Vimy 1917 May 4 cont.
Two of the enemy were also seen at N 31. C. 5. 5 apparently
using a machine gun from behind some sort of a cover
mounted on wheels. Under our rifle fire they retired to N. 31.
C. 8. 7. All the points mentioned are worthy of attention
of our artillery. It is believed, also, there is a machine
gun post in the South East corner of the big red brick pile
about T.1. a 50. 66. A Red Cross flag is flying from a house
in the vicinity of N. 32 & 25.70 in Avion.

Our Artillery was intermittently active during the night
on enemy front line system, back areas and counter bat-
tery work. Brigade machine guns were firing through
out the night, while Lewis Guns carried on bursts of fire
as frequently as our patrols and working parties would
permit. Riflemen and snipers are continuously engaged,
from various points in our front line, firing into buildings
in La Collette and suspected enemy posts - any targets
