Vimy 1917 May 4 cont.
Enemy was working from flank to flank. Through incorrect
ranging his fire was either short or over the Trench lines.
During the day, enemy artillery has been quiet with the pos-
sible exception of the la Chaudiere area.

There was the usual Machine Gun fire sweeping "No Man's
Land" and our front line during the night from points
seemingly on the Right and the Left of our front. Sniping was
fairly active during the day on our front line.

Several hostile air machines attempted to cross our line but were
driven back by our A. A. guns At dusk last evening two
enemy aeroplanes were observed crossing over to their own
lines, apparently having made a reconnaisance considerably
in rear of our area.

At 5.30 pm yesterday at the point? N. 31. C. q. 8 two Bosches
were seen to mount a machine gun, fire on our aircraft
and then disappear. Our rifle fire was directed on them
