Lens-Arras Road, while a few shells have been directed
to the East side of Vimy Ridge. Some overhead shrapnel
was burst over our second line, while the road mark-
ing the Brigade boundary on our left has also been
shelled from time to time. No casualties have re-
sulted from this artillery activity up to this hour.
Betwen 8 & 9 am today & from 12 noon to 1. pm, an
enemy aeroplane, flying low, patrolled over our front
& support lines repeatedly. He was fired on by Lewis
guns and rifle, but continued his reconnaisance.
Enemy artillery carried on registration by signal lights
which he displayed from his plane. He was eventually
driven off by Machine Gun fire. While this was in
progress, three of our battle planes were about the east
slope of the ridge, but did not approach the enemy ma-
chine. Considerable enemy machine gun fire was
directed on our front during the night, while the Lens-
Arras road was frequently swept. We retaliated to
some extent last night to the Enemy's barrage, while be-
tween daylight and 9 o'cock this morning, our ar-
