War Diary for the month of April 1917

and 11. am today, has been very feeble, a few shrapnel
& H.E. however were put on our support lines & Zouave
Vallley. At 8.40 last evening, the enemy ent up a
golden rocket, from his Suppor Lines, followed by a
Red and Green, a few minutes later. In about
five minutes a heavy barrage was put on our front
and Suppor Line, continuing for about 30 minutes.
At the same time he fired a great many flares and
also developed machine gun fire. This appeared to be
in the direcion s.14.a.2.3; s.15.a.3.0; s.15.c.5.8. His reta-
liation to our shoot this morning took about five
minues to commence, and in addition to firing at
our Front and Support Line and the Valley, a few fell
in the middle of No Man's Land. At 10.30 pm he
sent up two green and some golden rockets. These
also called for a bombardment on our Front and
Support Lines. About 7 pm last evening five
Enemy planes were noticed patrolling at a great
height. These did not come oer our line. About
