President Howard's annual Report-
To the Board of Trustees
Gentlement
On reviewing
the academical year now closing, we can say that the
University has been gradually improving and developing
in most of those Elements, which mark the character of a
healthy and prosperous Literary Institution- An increasing
number of young men purpose to persue a more Extended
and thorough course of Scientific and Clasical Studies-
There is not so much Change and instability
as in former years and the young men who Enter the
University have more mature views and conceptions
of the importance of a liberal and clasical Education-
Consequently do not Expect to attain the object of their
persuit, without years of patient mental toil-
