Thursday Morning July 31st 1856-
The Board met pursuant to adjournment present as
on yesterday- Gov' Chase in the Chair-
On Motion of Mr Aikin the resolution fixing the
Salaries of the Faculty was taken up and reconsidered
and on motion of Mr Welch was amended so as
to read
Resolved That the Salaries of the president and
professors be increased one hundred dollars Each
for the year commencing Sept 1st 1856-
On the motion, of Mr Jewett, there was forty
dollars, appropriated and placed at the disposal
of the Acting Committee to pay the Expenses
incurred for Music at the present Commencment
Exercises-
On the Motion of Mr Jewett there was three
hundred dollars appropriated to pay for the
services of a Janitor during the ensuing year-
Mr Hubbard then offered the following resolutions
which were adopted
1st Resolved That so much of the former proceedings of this Board
on the subject of perpetual scholarships as limits the number
to three hundred be recinded-
2nd Resolved That the committee on special & limited Scholarships be
requested to report upon the Expedincy of a system of perpetual
Scholarships whereby and for a specific Sum of Money in
hand paid then shall be issued to the purchaser a deed
or certificate of Scholarship guaranteeing to the purchaser
and to his or her heirs and assigns forever the right to have a
pupil Educated free of any and all tuition fees forever;
and any one purchaser may in his option purchase
any number of Scholarships - That so much of
The resolution passed at this meeting of the Board continuing
Messrs Jewett and Dana as the Committee for
the sale of Schollarships which Expire in A.D. 1860 and
Extending the time of the Expiration of [said][crossed out] Scholarships
from 1860 to 1st April 1861 was on motion
reconsidered [and Mr Jewett then asked leave to
withdraw said resolution which was granted][crossed out]
and amended by striking out so much as provides for the Extension
of the time, the Resolution as amended was agreed To-
