Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees July 29, 1856
Tuesday Morning July 30th 1856-
The Board met pursuant to adjournment
Present the same as yesterday, with the
adition of Gov' S.P. Chase [crossed out][and][end crossed out] William B. Hubbard, Mr Wright
Governor Chase took the Chair and Called the Board
to order.
Doc Howard presented the names of former graduates
of the University who asked of the Trustees to confer
upon them in Course the degree of Master of Arts, which
on Motion was refered to the Committee on degrees-
The Committee on Examiniations made their report
by the Chairman which was received, adopted, and
ordered to be Entered of record.
Committee on School House Lot, made report reducing
the rent, from 25 dollars as heretofore fixed, to Eight
dollars, when on Motion of Mr Jewett was laid
on the table-
The Committee on the Presidents annual Message
made their report which was received and the
first and second & fourth [written over "third"] resolutions adopted, which read as
follows.
1st That the increased Evidence of prosperity in
the University presented through this report are
such as to Stimulate the Faculty to increased Efforts
in their Several departments and give the Trustees and
friends of the institution strong ground to hope for higher
results & wider influence in the cause of Education
2 That the sum of one hundred dollars be placed in the
hands of [the][crossed out] president Howard to Expend in the purchase
of Books for the College Library-
4rd That one hundred dollars be placed at the disposal of
the president to secure the necessary assistance in the
preparatory department-
The committee appointed to report as to the increas of the
salary of the Faculty reported the following resolution
which was adopted that is to say
Resolved That the Salaries of the President & Professors
Repealed be increased fifty dollars Each for the year commencing
Sept 1st 1856.
