Annnal Meeting August 1st A.D. 1855
Committee on degrees reported recommending Hugh W. Guthrie
for the degree of Master of Arts in course & Horace
Wilson for the degree of Bachelor of Arts which report was received and the degrees conferred The degree of A.M.
was also confered on H.J. McGill & Wm. L. Smith
It was then moved that we proceed to the
election of Prof. of Ancient languages which resulted in the Election of J.M.
Leavitt- On motion Wm. H. Young was then elected
to the chair of Mathematics, & Rev. J.H. Prott
principal of preparatory department
A committee of two was appointed to inform
these persons of their election, this committee to consist
of Messrs. Jewett & Wilson-
On the Motion of Mr Welch the sum of three hundred
dollars was placed in the hands of the Acting Committee as a
contingent fund to meet meet incidental Expenses. Also the sum of
two hundred dollars was placed at the disposal of the president as
a contingent fund-
Mr J.M. Dana made a statement that the plate of the engraving for Diplomas for
the Ohio University had be lost. Whereas the sum of 80$ was appropriated to pay
for a new plate engraving. Also the sum of 46.25/00$ was appropriated
to pay for Catalogues for the present year.
It was on the motion of Mr Welch, ordered that all the Standing Committees
remain the same as last year, Except the Committee on Examinations
which was to be changed by placing Wm. J. Hand chairman in place
of Rev Wm. Aikin who declined serving-
The following was ordered to be Entered upon the minutes of Board
to wit: It is hereby delcared to be the opinion of the Board, that hereafter
there should be no appropriations made for music, by this institution, unless on
full consent by the acting committee-
It was moved there that when we adjourn it be until 8 Oclock tomorrow
morning. The Board then adjourned to meet at 8 O.clock
tomorrow morning- Horace Wilson
