Annual Meeting. August 1, 1854
On account of the increasing number of Students
more assistance in the Preparatory Department is necessary
to accomplish successfully the work of teaching in that Department.
In order to provide for this, I would suggest
that a small fund of $100, or $150 be placed at the disposal
of the President or Faculty, with which to procure, as may be
necessary, the requisite assistance.
We would further recommend the continued sale
of Scholarships, and it might be well to make provision
for their more rapid sale, till we reach a certain definite
number.
There has been paid into the Treasury for Room Rent
the sum of $89.44. Twenty of the rooms in the wings have
been fitted up (according to provisions made by the Board)
at an expense of from $5 to $10 or $12 per room. The rooms
of the College building are at present in tolerably good repair,
with the exception of the rooms in the first stories of the wings
and I would respectfully urge the propriety and necessity of
fitting up these before the commencement of the next Term.
According to a former resolution passed by the Board
I herein submit an account of the Contingent expenses
of the University drawn forby me. The sum exceeds the amount
appropriated by the Board for the year. This has been
occasioned by paying the Janitor more than formerly.
He has had more work to do, and the expense has been
proportionally increased- R
Respectfully, S. Howard"
Mr Wilson from the Committee appointed to attend
the examinations, presented a Report, which was read
and accepted, as follows:
"Your Committee appointed to attend the examinations
at the close of each term, report that they
have attended a considerable number of the examinations
sufficent, as they believe, to warrant them in saying
that the Students have been properly and thouroughly
insturcted in their several classes, and reflected honor
upon themselves and the Faculty. Your Committee further
say that they believe the President and Professors have fully
discharged their duties individually and collectively as members
of the Faculty of the Ohio University."
(Signed Horace Wilson, J.M. Dana, L. Jewett, A.G. Brown)
