This increased accumulation of funds arises principally
from the sales and payments for Lots, which recourse
must henceforth cease, since few or no Lots remain to be
disposed of. From this surplus further payments in reduction
of this indebtedness of the University may be made; but
upon it no increase of permanent appropriation can safely
be predicated. (Brown, Welch, Jewett & Dana, Comee)
The Committee on the Sale of Lots made
a Report on Tuesday, which was received
and accepted and is here recorded as
follows:
"The Committee on the Sale of Lots report, that, on
the 10th of March, 1853, after due notice, they offered at
Public Sale, all the In and Out Lots in the Town of Athens
belonging to the University, remaining unsold, and
made sales of the same, as follows- the Terms of the sale being
one third of the purchase money in hand, one third in six
and one third in twelve months, with interest from the day of sale
The Rents to commence from the 1st of January 1853.
