in Mysore + Madras. The wood is exquisitely fragrant, + formerly
an oil was distilled from the book + used in medicine, but the
use of this 'Satal Oil' is now almost confined to perfumery.
The Arabian name for apothecary, saidanani or saidalani, from
the Indian word, tshandan (sandal wood); the name is derived
from the circumstance that the first drug merchants, who
came to Arabia by Sea, Generally dealt in sandal wood.
