Heinrich Steinfowel - the Ulm town physician. Steinhowel had
studied + taught in Padus for several years + he became
one of the most important mediators of Italian + classical
literature to the German - speaking peoples. He made +
published translations of Petrarh, Boccaccio, Apollonius
of Tyre, Aesop's fables + compiled a German chronicle
and a treatise on the plague. He was a financial
patron of J. Zainer's press. It is probably no coincidence,
but a reflection of Steinhowel's own wishes that most
of his translations appeared in illustrated editions.
