7 Forbidden Arts
Scientific works of any kind amount to about 1 in 16
of the publications of the 15th C.
Medicine - looking over the list of books published on the
subject in the 15th C with regard to the number of editions etc., we
may estimate that 1/2 of the works were systematic treatises,
about 1/5 works on diet, the preservation of health, about 1/5
on poisons + on specific diseases, about 1/10 on drugs +
simples, including herbals, + less than 5% on surgery
+ anatomy.
- Hortus - a compilation - the inheritance of animal + vegatable
materia medica of the Middle Ages with all the superstition
+ the hermatic scholasticism in full force.
