capitals. Each of the 435 plants is figured + there
are also a full page woodcut of botanists in council on 16,
and a cut of a doctor + woman on 339a.
149a - church types. Used in the Breslau Missal (1483) +
subsequently. 93 Small semi cursive Text Type used in vernacular works.

The Psalter completed 14 Aug. 1457, is the 1st dated book
in which First + Schoeffer's names are found together.

-The first herbal in the German Tongue.
The most important medieval work on natural history to
illustrations + the greatest single step in the art of botanical
illustrations. The Cant given in 435 chapters to nearly 400 (381 379)
(5x7") illustrations a compendium o fthe whole pharmacy of that time.
It was conventiently arranged in alphabctical order,
according to the Latin names of plants, +
each chapter heading included the Latin + German names
to the chapter number. The woodcuts of Schoeffers book
depicted plants common to Germany. The woodcuts
possessed a realism never seen in the pages of an herbal
up to that time. No less than 34 authorities are cited
in its pages. Libe many another 15th C book it had
no one auther.
