It is believed that the reign's of David + Solomon, about 1000 BC
mark the 1st recording of the Bible. It was written in
Hebrew a Tongue not widely spoken among the ancient
peoples. In 270 BC the Egyptian King Ptolemy 2
requested a common language version for the library in
Alexandria + gathered together 70 scholars from Jerusalem
to collaborate on a translation from Hebrew to Greek.
Besides supplying the 1st authoritative Bible still inuse
in the Eastern Orthodox Church, these learned men
unintentionally inspired the name by which it has been traditionally known - Septuagint taken from the Latin
word for 70.
The hand copying a sacred manuscripts occaioned
discrepancies between texts, + Pope Damascus found
Latin translations so varied that in 382 he ordered
Jerome - standardization - Latin Vulgate.
The message of the desciples of Jesus was eventually
set to papyrus in Greek in the 4 Gospels. The
earliest of these texts (Mark) was written down after
70 AD.
