the mauscript + yet so different

- Richenthal does not go into the actual acta concilii.
Although he mentions them, he dwells on the life in
Constance at the time of the Council, the people who
came to visit it + the events which were apparent
to the observing onlooker.
-With the exception of the 4th Lateren Council in 1215,
the Council of Constance was the most memorable gathering
of the Latin clergy in the history of the medieval church.
It was also the most successful hour of the great councils
which hopefully began at Pisa in 1409 + ended in
despair at Lavsamne in 1449.
- Upon the death of the Frenchman Gregory XI in 1378, and
Italian, the Archibald of Bari, was elected + took the
name of Urban VI. Soon after his election, the French
cardinals fled his court + elected one of their number,
Clement VII. From this moment there were 2 popes
+ 2 obediences in Latin Christendom.
Attempts to end the Great Schism + rather the Church to
stablility sesumed in 1409 at the Council of Pisa, where a
majority of the cardinals deposed both popes + elected a
3rd, Alexander V. He died soon after + the cardinals
then elected John XXIII (Baldassae Cossa)

-Constance had a population of between 6-8,000 + was the seat of a bishop
