Book II provides the farmer to the botanical background headed
to raise every kind of crop.
Pedacius
Dioscoides, 1st C Greek army surgeon, originated the
science of medicinal botany, or materia medica, describing
over 600 plants. (about 149 of these were knownt ot Hippocrates)
-on the planting + cultivation of trees + herbaceous plants
Haebler - no printed sig. -A-R10, 5-u12 x8 = 214 leaves including 5 blanks
It would not be correct to say that J. Schussler had a type
of his own, because from 28 June 1470 till 6 March 1473
he issued some 10 books which were printed in the 1st type
of G. Zainer which had served the latter from 1468-70 in
at least as many books. It is obvious that Schussler had
no regular training as a printer, but was rather only a
type setter + a press-man. Schussler never owned more than
one type + he obviously could not renew it; for this reason
he gave up printing very soon + sold his press to the
monastery of St. Ulrich + Afria
-P. Crescenzi - wrote his main work on rural occupations in 1304-1309
- the founder of modern agronomy.
J. Schussler had worked for Mentelin in Strassburg, then set up his
presses in Augsburg, issuing books from 1478. In 1473, however,
he sold his equipment to ro the Monastery of SS Ulrich + Afra
henceforht seperated as a bookseller + binder
The Latin text was translated (anonymously) into French in 1323 + presented to Charles V, King of France Hunt Cat. Botanical Book Ref 25360 H83
