Bologna) was one of the old works surviving in manuscript
which early publishers of Frankfurt, Speyer + Strassburg
printed + illustrated to miserable figures from the old
Herbarius + the Hortis Sanitatis. There were at least
a dozen editions in the original Latin + in German
Italian + French prior to 1500. The text was taken
in part form Albertus Magnus to whom Pietro gave
credit in his 6th book. Pietro deserves his reputation
as the only medieval writer on agricultural botany
who excels Albertm Magnus. (1193-1280)
Albertus Magnus, "the Aristotle of his period," teacher
of Thomas Aquines, enjoyed enormous prestige during the
Middle Ages + early Renaissance.
