The 3 Sundays, Septusgesima, Sexagesima + Quinquagesima,
are closely connected, by their very titles to the Lenten
season, called in Latin "Quadragesima". They are in fact
a preparation for it, + from it they draw their penitential
character.
- Johann of Speyer died while his 4th book Augustine's City of God
was still unfinished, + his brother Wendelin took charge of the shop
+ continued to operate the press till his own death 8 yrs later -
he managed to issue at least 8 separate works from his presses
[inserted] Cat #4 Winter Farm Books #85 [end inserted] - The Franciscan Roberto Canaccialo was for about 50 yrs the
most celebrated preacher in Italy + was sometimes referred to as a
"second" Paul. He was acclaimed by the common people. + also
highly esteemed by Popes + kings. pope Calistus II made
him papal huncio to Milan to preach for the ollection
of tithes for a crusade against the Turks. Pope Paul II
named him "preacher apostolic"; King Ferdinand I of
Naples made him preacher of the realm + his son + successor, Alphonse, chose Caraccialo as royal confessor.
In 1475 he was made bishop of Aquila. Although he was
a controversial figure among Franciscans of his time,
his sermons powerfully aroused the falings of his
listeners + were avidly read by hs contemporaries.
