Woodcuts are a smaller version of the Cologne Bible of 1479-80.

The 1st printed German Bible, the Mentel Bible of 1466,
[inserted] p. 433 Cambridge Bible Vol 2 [end inserted] in optic of moderizations, actually reflects the language +
thamotalion technique of about the beginning of the 14th C.
the manuscript fom which Mentel printed his Bible has
perished but a compaion to other texts from the period
shows that he used a version which was then at least
150 yrs old; the 1466 Bible is thus really the 1st complete
German Bible. Elwen new editions was called for before
1500, but the frequent + often drastic alterations made
in late aditions show how umsalis factory this archaic
thamslation was felt to be. All the same it held the
field until eclipsed by Luther's version.
The baptism of the Frankis king Colvis + his vassals
on Christmas Day 496 marks the effective begining of Christianity
among the Germans.
916- the Anglo Saxon Boniface began his 40 yrs of missionary work.

1466- Mentel Bible- based on the Latin Yulgate -inserts
the Epistle of the Laodiceams after Galatians + places the
[inserted] Demlows Monle [end inserted] Acts next after Hebrews same type as for Schatzbehalter
1483 - A. Kobanger -the 9th German Bible -the text is
apparently based on the Cologne Law German Bible, Luther
in referring to this editio of Kobanger declared that "no one
could speak German of this outlandish kind."
