A.W. Pollard (Fine Books p. 112) writes "Gruninger's full strength
was reserved for the Virgil - which was superintended by Brant,
+ is crowded with wonderful pictures, in which on the very eve
of the Renaissance Virgil is thoroughly medievalized."
The blocks must have passed from Gruninger to Sacon
at Lyons shortly after the Strasbourg printing of the
1515 edition of Thomas Murner's German translation of
the Aeneid. The same set of blocks, with some omissions,
appears again at Lyons in Jean Crespin's edition
of 1529.

Candles for the monastic church were probably made from
pure beeswax in the Middle Ages, + honey was extensively
used to sweeten the diet before the import of sugar began
in the 15th C.

The Georgies contain 39 pictures -3rd book -13 4th " - 7

"A farmer's handbook" is what Gerogies - "tillage of the land" means - 4 books containing
2, 184 lines in all. The 4th book starts with hives, apologizes for the
omission of truck gardens, + proceeds to discuss the nature + discosu
of bees. In connection with rearing bus from the carcasses of cattle
the epyllion on the story of Aristacus is included to close
the book.

"It is practical husbandry done in lovely verse, on achievement
which would off-hand appear impossible, + has certainly
never been repeated since."
