The Strassburg Virgil of 1502 - the woodcuts of this edition
are by the artist known as "The Master of Gruninger's
Workshop," + they are recognized as his best work. The Virgil
edited by Sebastian Brant is the finest book of the 3 classical
edition of Gruninger.

A hundred separate editions of the whole or part of the Virgilian
corpus were printed before the end of the 15th C. The first is an
early work of Swayheym + Panorartz [1469]. Later editions were
often accompanied by the 4 th C. commentary of Servius, an
invaluable source of information. Perhaps the most important of
all editions was that produced by Aldus, 1501 - Venice: the
first pocket book to be printed.
