"Basel also witnessed the publication of the Cosmographia of Sabastien
Munsten in the year 154[crossed out]3[end crossed out] 4, which had many editions."

-the folio by S Munsten published at Basle in 1550 +
giving an account of all peoples, sects, customs, religions,
rivers, animals, etc. of the world. Munsten who is
portrayed with a scone shaped hat + a 2 days' beard,
dedicated his great work to the Emperor Charles V. In
addition to hundreds of coarse cuts of various sizes
ranging from 4 sheet folding maps to small figures,
Munsten gives 2 pages of Hebrew type from the writing of
Prester John. Many of the blocks in Munsten's Cosmography
are printed several times, + one at least, upside-down,
Munsten's cuts show one interesting feature in that the
Formschancider is no longer obliged to cut out his letters
upon the block. Instead of that, the names of towns + countries
etc. are now printed from Types by inserting them in holes
