The minutes of the meeting held
Oct. 8th were read and approved.

Dow passes as 3d
year student
[/margin]

Dr Williamson reported that
he had examined orally John Ball
Dow in mathematics & in accordance with
his recommendation, the Senate resolved
that Mr. Dow be ranked as a third
year student.

Merit certificates
[/margin]

The Senate having considered certain
disadvantages attending the present
system of distinguishing excellence in the
performance of class work by the awarding
of prizes. Resolved, that in addition
to any prizes that may be offered
for competition, two order of merit
certificates shall be granted in each
class, namely, a first class merit certificate
to every student who shall gain a
minimum of 85 per cent of the aggregate
number of marks obtainable at the
examinations in writing appointed for
the session, and a second class merit
certificate to every student who shall
gain from 70 to 85 per cent of the
said number of marks, and that the
names of successful competitors for these
certificates shall be placed in the order of
merit in all lists of prizemen which
shall be drawn up or published by order
of the Senate. Further that the
distinction known as homourable mention
shall be discontinued.
