University, from his student days onward and upward,
he had participated in many changes in the career
and development of his Alma Mater, and his were the
clear head and strong hands so needful and helpful
at many a juncture. He had much to do, as Secretary
and Treasurer, with the establishment and brilliant
career of the School of Mining, and his counsel and
experience were most valuable in the negotations
which led to that School becoming the Practical Science
Faculty of the University. There were no mealy-mouthed
platitudes about "George Y". But if his speech was sometimes
direct and blunt, he had a big heart when any
worthy, deserving appeal came to him. The resolution
of the Board bespoke its high sense of the personal
worth, and the service of these two men and its sympathy
with the bereaved homes.

In the proceding autumn, a Royal Commission on
University finances, appointed by the Ontario Government,
visited Kingston, and made an exhaustive
inspection of the whole property and equipment and
administration of Queen's. The authorities invited
that, believing that when it was clearly known what
she had done, and was doing, her title to larger
Provincinal help would be readily recognized. Sir
