Life, this session, promised to be no less active and eventful
than in the last. A new Principal was to be found, and when
he came, his office would be no sinecure, though, strong and
loyal, the Board and Council and Staff at his elbow.

The Report of the Finance and Estates Committee was
fuller and more comprehensive than usual. The changes
and additions in the personnel of the Staff, and the
grading up of salaries by special bonus, and the means proposed
for increased endowment were all practically approved
as they stood.

It was gratifying to know that the Chancellor continued
his offer of half a million to the Endowments
provided other friends of Queen's would make up another
half-million. And he would interest himself in the
second half-million. Meantime, he would pay our
deficits. Such goodness and generosity of heart, on
the part of one friend, should have roused to strenuous
endeavour the other friends; but, apart from a few
modest repsonses, the scribe may have to record that
the second half-million did not yet materialize, and
so, neither the million.

Dr Daniel Strachan, of Toronto, was appointed to
organize a rush campaign to secure the half that
would bring the University the whole. The Canadian
wounded were coming back in large numbers from
the war, and hospital accomodation was urgently
