1916-1917

26th April, 1916, the Board authorized the National Trust
Company, the transfer agents of said Company, Limited, to
convey those shares to Queen's University at Kingston. The
number and quality of the books, and papers, and articles
that have proceeded from this Lectureship would confer
distinction on any University in the world.

The worker dies, but the work remains. In the past year
two members of the Board "crossed the Great Divide" -
Dr PC McGregor, of Almonte, and Alex. Laird, Esq of Toronto.
P.C. McGregor graduated from Queen's in 1866, with high
classical and literary standing. He chose teaching as his
life's work, and for forty years he was one of the most
unselfish, devoted, and successful teachers in the Secondary
Schools of the Province. And the Almonte School was, and
still is, a copious feeder of the classes at Queen's. On the
Board Dr. McGregor was a most valuable member because
of his personal and intimate knowledge of the Educational
system of the Province, and the reciprocal relations of
School and University. Mr Laird was a citizen of Toronto,
and a Banker. But his counsel, as a man of wide
business experience, and wide knowledge of men, was
valuable and never sought in vain. He thoroughly
approved of the Banking Course at the University and
helped materially in giving it a practical organization.

To the bereaved homes the warm, unstinted word of
sympathy was sent.
