in Colonial History. The Board received with much
satisfaction this gift of Andrew Haydon, LL.D., Ottawa,
and cordially thanked him for this solid expression of
his continued interest in Queen's.

And interest in the aesthetic and historical side of the
University was by no means wanting. Already, the
collection of portraits of eminent men, of many lands,
was large and valuable, and in this connection
Sir Gilbert Parker was a liberal benefactor. Among
the earlier friends of Queen's was the Hon. Wm. Morris,
and Mr. Edmund Morris presented the University
with an attractive set of photographs of that Hon.
gentleman. His portrait also had a place among many
others in Convocation Hall. The Board conveyed to
Mr. Edmund Morris its high appreciation of his gift
and personal interest.

There comes now into the record a new Department of
Queen's of much more than ordinary academic
importance—The Summer School. On the part of the
University, it has shown exceptional initiative and
educational insight, and on the part of those for
whom it was organized exceptional enthusiasm and
devotion to opportunity and privilege. Extra-mural
studies had already been carried on under the direction
of the Senate and the Board for some years, and
