glorious and exciting time during
the whole voyage. The sudden change
from a foul wind to a fair one,
and the noble ship coming up so
bravely before it with every sail [ket?];
the setting sun, the heavy black
masses of clouds which were passing
over hurrying us along with about the
finest breeze since starting, the
numerous craft by which we were
surrounded, and the good spirits in
which every one seemed to be at the
sudden change which had come over
the face of things, all united in forming
a scene never to be forgotten.

Friday Aug. 30

We al stopped on deck last evening
till pretty late, until we had passed
the light ship off Cape May. I did
intend to stop up all night but
as a drizzly rain had set in, I
thought it prudent to go to bed and
get up early this morning, which I
