No. 1 the Hope spoke us. About 250 miles
from the river.

Monday Aug. 26

Perfectly calm all day, and clear and
warm. About 3 this afternoon, a large
French steamer the City of Paris passed us
going to New York. Provisions were served out
this morning.

Tuesday Aug. 27

Beautiful day with strong fair wind. This
morning the Schooner Oswego from N.Y.
to St. Johns spoke us.

Wednesday Aug. 28

A fine day, with a steady wind from
the Southwest. The sailors are all
busy with finally cleaning up the
ship and we are all busy with looking
out for land which we expect to
see before bedtime, the Captain
is also very busy with his glass
with which he is continually mounting
the rigging, for the purpose of sighting
land, which some of the sailors say
is visible from the mast-head.
