progress we are making; but we can come
to no conclusion as we can get no
definite information. We are supposed
to be near the Banks which are con-
sidered to be rather more than half
way across. This evening we had our
[fore?] gallant sheet carried away.

Wednesday Aug 7

A cool comfortless day; but the wind
is good nad we are making about
7 knots per hour.

Friday Aug. 8th

The strongest wind since we have been
out though not exactly fair. I have
been rather poorly all day. This morning
we had a race with a fine ship to
the leeward of us; which however gained
on us and toward evening disappeared
from sight.

Saturday Aug 10th

The wind which was very high all
day yesterday, towards evening in
creased to a perfect gale, and was
a cause of anxiety to all on board
