The whole surface of the ground with
a glassy sheet of ice. Having Miss D.
on one arm and Lizzie on the other
I had a most difficult job to keep my
perpendicular, as one or the other was
continually falling and when one fell
we were al sure to fall together. So we
were down every ten or twelve steps the
greater part of the way back. We were
almost two hours getting home, a distance
of only a mile. We envied many persons
who were gliding most beautifully along
on skates. However we got in safely
with whole bones, a thing which we are
very tahnkful for as many must have
been seriously injured on such a night
memorable for many years to come in the hannals
of the city of London. I did not venture
further and slept at Uncles.

much surprised to hear that a terrible
riot was prevailing in the town of
