Sunday Jan 20
Went up to London; walked up to St James
Park to have a look at the skating, at which
some hundreds of people were actively
engaged as well as in sliding. We went
to [Squire?] Evening Service at St. Paul's
and heard a beautiful sermon by the
Rev. Mr. Makensie of Holloway.
Tuesday Jan. 22
Lizzie, Miss Dunn and I went to
Sadlers Wells to see the Pantomime -
Being a benefit night we had an
awful crush to get in. The first
piece was called "Love's Sacrifice". The
pantomime entitled: "The Princ, the Page,
and the Pageant" was only middling.
Being a very pleasant evening when we
went in we were very much surprised on
coming out to find ourselves sprawling
on the ground in the most helpless
and amusing manner: a light rain
having fallen and freezing, covered
