we were entertained with cake and wine
by the two old ladies, Aunts Mary and
Sarah. The coffin was soon in and
we drove off slowly to Alford Cemetary,
about seven miles from town, where the
guneral service was read in the small
chapel attached to the Cemetary, after
which we walked to the grave where the
last remains of Uncle William were
committed to the earth. As the day
was very cold, we stopped on our return
journey at a public house by the road-
side for some refreshment, and
after enjoying a gloss of hot rum
we set off more comfortably on our return.
We took tea with the old Aunts at
Carthusion St. Took supper at Uncle
Thomas'.

Sunday Mar. 18

Tom, Frank, Mr Morton and I took
a trip this morning to Eltham, a
small town beyond Blackheath, to which
place we went by rail and walked
the remainder of the distnce, we crossed
