to sea. The Great Eastern has just returned
from an unsuccessful attempt to lay the
Atlantic Cable. We sailed round the
noble vessel, which is lying in the midst
fo a great many dismantled men of war
of the last generation, and then returned
to London which we reached early in the
evening: I then went and had some supper
at uncles.

Sunday Sept 17

Took a walk this morning to Deptford
Lower Town. This evening Mr. Whittall,
Tom and I took a walk in search of a
house for the former. We were not successful
in finding one.

Sunday Sept 24

Went up to London; went to morning
service at St. Sepulchre's; dined with
Uncle Thomas. Walked as far as the Angel
with Maryann in the evening.
