at eleven. When we reached the Palace
we started off to explore the grounds
when a shower came in and we were
obliged to take shelter in the Grotto, a
sort of artificial cave. The remainder
of the day was wet and disagreeable
and we spent the afternoon in the
Palace. At one oclock we took our position
in the crowd for the purpose of listening
to the Concert; a position which proved to
be a most uncomfortable one, as we
were obliged to sit for five hours on
a barrier, in a most crampy position.
Before the concert was over I felt very
sick, which did not add much to my
comfort, and I was not sorry when
the concert terminated at sick o'clock.
It was very grand the programme
being the same as last year; the
Old Hundred; the Evening Hymn; and
God Save the Queen, being sung with
the usual grandeur. After the concert
we walked through the tropical department
