to a part of the Downs called the Coombe;
a sort of ravine or defile, very deep and dark
where rifle shooting is practised. We left
[Luves?] on the return Journey at eight:
reached home at eleven!

Sunday Sept 18

Accepted an invitation to dine with Uncle to
day, in company of many other members of
the family including Cousins Edwin and
Emma from [Luves?]. Went to St [Gules?],
[Supplegate?] morning service, stood
godfather to Emmas little girl Kate this
afternoon; saw Uncle William and Aunt [Ames?]
who called in the evening.

Sunday Sept 25th

Took a walk this morning with Thomas
and Mr. Barrel to Peckham.

Sunday Oct. 2nd

Went up this morning very early to London;
took breakfast with Uncle after which
he and I took a boat at London Bridge
to Battersen Park; spent an hour or
