collection of paintings of which [[Turner's]]
form the most valuable part. Then I went
to the [[Polytechnic Institution]] [[Regents St]].
This is a scientific and literary institution
and the entertainment which is varied daily
consisted this afternoon of lectures on
Electricity and Mnemonics or the service
of memory, both of which were illustrated.
A short exhibition in which three tableaux
showing the ghost illusion were presented;
and an entertainment consisting of
dissolving veins and ghost illusions en-
titled "Beauty and the Beast" musically
given and very beautiful. There was also
an illustration of the diving bell and the
manner in which it is used. After the
[[Polytecnic]] was over I took a stroll
in [[St. James Park]] and listened to the band
of the [[Commissionaries]] who play here
every evening. I then after having some
tea proceeded to the [[Covent Garden Opera
House]] to [[Alfred Mellon's]] Concert which
was very grand. I reached home at half
past twelve, pretty well tired out.
