the numbers in the streets which have
been completely crammed with holiday
people all in their summer attire, for
at this season it is the fashion for all
who can, to come out in a new suit.
The railways and steamboats must have
done a great business, for every train
and boat left crowded with people.
Yesterday morning Thomas, Walter, and I took
a walk across Blackheath and Greenwich
Park, which at this season is particularly
lovely, the chestnuts being out in blossom
imparting a fragrance to the air, which
is highly relished by the Londoner. Tired
and exhausted by a weeks toil within
the noisy, dusty, and closely packed
city, this evening T, his wife and I
again walked to the Park with the
intention of meeting Mr. and Mrs.
Braine, and taking with them a
walk across the country, an intention
which was frustrated by a slight shower
accompanied with thunder and lightening
