walk home from London Bridge a distance
of five miles. Reached home about half
past twelve.

Sunday March 27
Good Friday was a holiday at our place
and consequently our place was closed. The
Crystal Palace, being the only place of
amusement open I went there and formed
one of a crowd of 50,000 people. I
was considerable crushed and knocked
about in getting there and still more
so in coming away. I spent the day very
pleasantly in inspecting the various objects
of interest, amusement, and instruction
with which the place abounds and in
listening to the grand [swered?] concert
which lasted from one o'clock till
six. The effect was very great when
the immense audience joined with
the great organ, the band of the Goldstream
Guards, the Crystal Palace band and
the chorus in singing the Old Hundred
Psalm, the evening hymn, and God
Save the Queen. There was also some
