Pall Mall, had a turn in St. James' Park
and returned to Uncle Thomas in time
for dinner, passing on my way back
through Old Baily where great preparations
are being made for the execution of the
five sailors tomorrow morning who are
condemned to death for piracy.
Barriers of strong wood are erected at
the distance of every ten or twelve yards
in all the streets leading to the prison
to prevent crowding from the immense
mob of roughs sure to be collected.
Although Sunday morning there was quite
a large crowd collected out of a curiosity
to see the preparations. The execution has
been the talk of London for some days
and is the sensation of the day.

Monday Feb. 21st
This I think has been the darkest day
since I have been here and without
exception the gloomiest day I have ever
seen and altogether a fit day for an
execution. The air seems filled with a
smoky sort of fog which gives the sky
