at home today. I went to St. John's Deptord
to morning service.

Sunday Dec. 20
Suffering from a very bad cold. Went to
St. John's Deptford this morning. The weather
is very cool today.

Friday Dec. 25th
Not being able to spend my Christmas at
home I have done the next best thing. I
have spent it with my Uncle and Aunt
at their invitation. I went to morning
service at St. Giles but I was surprised
to see so small a congregation on a
Christmas morning, from which I inferred
that the English do not as a general
thing pay much attention to the rites of the
Church on that day. I don't think there
could have been more than a hundred
in a church capable of holding a
thousand. I dined with Uncle Thomas and
Aunt Ames who was there spending the day.
It was a very quiet party all old
people. We had a game of whist in
the evening.

Line Breaks: Hit return once after each line ends. Two returns indicate a new paragraph, which is usually indentation following the preceding sentence in the original. The times at the end of each entry should get their own paragraph, since the software does not support indentation in the transcriptions.
Illegible text: Indicate illegible readings in single square brackets: [Dr?]
A single newline indicates a line-break in the original document, and will not appear as a break in the text in some views or exports. Two newlines indicate a paragraph, and will appear as a paragraph break in all views.
