a tobaconist shop. Saw Uncle William

Monday Nov 2nd
Mr Jewell (at the shop) and I took a walk
this evening up Holborn and stopped at
a very pretty little church, St. Albans.
It is built something after the style of a
monastery and very highly ornamented.
The service is Presbyte. the altar is
something after the style of the
Catholics with candles etc.

Thursday Nov 5th
This is the celebrated Guy Fawkes
day, which is looked forward to by all the
youngsters of England something like
our Fourth of July is by young Americans.
Various effigies of the notorious Guy are
made up, and after parading him
about and subjugating him to all sorts
of indignities, he is generally consigned
to the flames and burnt to ashes, amid
a display of squibs and fireworks which
of course is more relished by the
youngsters than by and one else.
