to London this morning. Attended
Divine Service at Cripplegate Church.
Sermon by the Vicar Mr. Gilbert. Took
dinner and tea with Uncle. After tea
I walked to Newington to hear Mr.
Spurgeon. After an hours walk and some
little difficulty I found his Tabernacle.
It is an immense plain looking building.
I found a large crowd standing on
the steps and in front of the building
and taking my position as near as possible
to the door I waited patiently for it to open.
As soon as the doors opened, there was a
grand rush for seats in which I joined
and got carried bodily without any effort
into the building and was able to
to secure a seat although there were
but few vacant, most of the seats being
held by ticket holders who are admitted
privately. The interior presented a
beautiful sight. It is fitted up like
an amphitheatre being of an elliptical
